Islamorada

Eat. Fish. Sleep.

That’s the mantra on this tiny key halfway between Miami and Key West.

Known primarily for excellent fishing, the vibe in Islamorada is peaceful and laid back.  There are

beautiful coral reefs and the same gorgeous water you see down the Florida coast, but you’re

more likely to run into Jimmy Buffett down this way than Pitbull.

There's a ton to do in Islamorada

    Into water sports?

Paddleboards, kayaks, sail boats, jet skis, and snorkeling equipment can be rented at each of the hotels on our list.

Want to go fishing?

Head to

Robbie’s

and board the Capt. Michael, an industrial barge that takes beer-bellied regulars out on daily excursions.

Even beginners will return from the four-hour trip with a few sizable snappers.

You can bring beer and wine coolers (yep, wine coolers) on the boat but no liquor.  Beer, soda and snacks are also for sale if you don’t want to bring your own.

If an excursion isn’t in the cards, taking some time to feed the tarpon ($3 for a bucket of bait) off the dock at Robbie’s is a Keys rite of passage.
